We have 3 categories of Design Styles: Modern, Transitional and Modern Farmhouse. So naturally we will be debuting one in each category!

First, we have Midwest Scandinavian joining the lineup in our Modern Design Styles. Scandinavian design is known for both its simplicity and warmth. This inviting style has become popular for the combination of clean lines, mix of textures, warm color tones and functionality.

Next we have Organic Modern coming to the Transitional Design Style. This style gently weaves together clean lines and organic materials. It accomplishes that by introducing nature-inspired elements and neutral tones into a modern space for an effortless yet sophisticated design.

Lastly we are introducing European Farmhouse to the Modern Farmhouse Design Style. All Farmhouse styles have a warm and homey approach, but European Farmhouse has a more timeless feel- it’s farmhouse without trying to be farmhouse. It’s relaxed, lived in, and not overly polished. This style also emphasizes quality.

A new construction home is the ultimate blank canvas for a homeowner. For some this can be a bit overwhelming, so I am here to give you some pointers to get you started!

Spatial Boundaries

Open floor plans are very popular with new construction homes. People are drawn to these because you can still interact with family members and friends while in different rooms. It also creates a feeling of big wide open space that is undefined. You will want to create spatial boundaries with furniture, rugs and other home accents once you move in.

Kitchen

The area I always begin with when making a move is the kitchen. This is not an aesthetic thing, but more of a functional and organizational decision.

Entryway, Living Room and Bedrooms

Once the kitchen is complete, I would move to the entryway, living room and bedrooms. These take priority for me because they have the highest level of activity.

Your entryway is important to welcome guests, function as the hub for your family and help organize traffic flow.

Your living room is equally important because this is where you typically gather. It is usually used for relaxation which makes it a good idea to prioritize this while decorating.

Up next is the bedrooms. You may spend considerably less time in this space, however, you will want a place to relax and recharge at the end of the day. This space should feel comfortable, functional and beautiful.

By prioritizing these areas you will achieve that lived-in feeling faster.

Linear Spaces

One last tip would be to focus on vertical spaces like walls and windows to help cozy up the rooms. After that, then move on to horizontal surfaces such as countertops, tables and shelves.

Everyone always asks me for interior paint recommendations. Picking the perfect color can be super stressful. Even further, choosing the wrong color is something you have to live with. Here are my top 5 interior paint color recommendations to help refresh your spaces.

Alabaster

Alabaster is one of my all time favorites. It is a very creamy off-white. A true warm neutral paint color. The warmth is a great choice in today’s design world. This is a very classic color that mixes well with brass and wood tones.

Iron Ore

Iron Ore is on the other end of the spectrum. I love this color because you can use it literally anywhere. A moody interior, eye-catching cabinets or an accent wall. This is a true dark gray with no undertones – and I’m here for that!

Agreeable Gray

Agreeable Gray the ultimate neutral greige paint color! It perfectly balances gray and beige for a soft warm gray. It absolutely goes with everything! This color blends warm and cool colors together, which makes this mixture close to magical. Sometimes our painters even joke, “Let me guess Agreeable Gray.” They know me well!

Peppercorn

Peppercorn is more of the dark moody color, however, it is not as dark of a gray as Iron Ore. This is one of those all star colors and has been really popular. It is loaded with depth and character. For a dark color, that is rare. I would say this is a very dark transitional warm gray. It has a good balance of warm and cool undertones. It’s easy to see why this is one of most popular colors!

City Loft

City Loft is quickly becoming a new favorite! City Loft is a light-toned paint color. It is a soft hue that exhibits extreme warmth with a cozy vibe. You will want to be careful where you use this one because it does have some deep red-pink undertones. I used it on our Fall Parade of Homes house and it turned out to be a perfect fit.

I hope this helps you in your search for the perfect paint color! Always remember paint will look different in each space. Lighting, windows and existing finishes will play a big factor. I would highly recommend getting paint samples and trying it out before making a commitment.

First off, we have our moody farmhouse design style on our Farmhouse Juniper floor plan. This is the first time a Farmhouse Juniper floor plan has been built in Sioux Falls. If you love farmhouse, but prefer those deeper darker richer tones, this is right up your alley! Two tone cabinets and shiplap accents are a few favorite features in this home.

Next, we have our Buckeye floor plan with our current classic design style. This floor plan has all the cozy vibes. If you like all things light and bright, you will love this home. One question I hear a lot is on how to mix metals in a home. Chandeliers, faucets, or cabinet knobs and pulls are essential to bringing anything metallic together. Here are 3 easy tips to follow to start mixing metals in your home and complement any surrounding spaces.

Inspiration From Light Fixtures

Light fixtures are an excellent tool to tie colors from. As you can see in this modern-style Juniper floor plan, we had fun blending the black and gold metals throughout the home. In the bathroom we had one of our favorite Black Delta Faucet collections with a great pair of lights from George Kovacs sourced through Mahlanders. The result was a cohesive and practical space that draws all colors together.

Layering Colors

The primary bathroom in our 2022 Spring Parade Home was the perfect example of layering colors. We began with Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black on the cabinets accented with gold pulls and completed with black and gold on the lighting and mirrors. We also tied-in black bath hardware and faucets. Layering your metals works well in a bathroom because it provides a clean layout and contributes to an organized feel.

Tile Reflections

Select tile that reflects surrounding metals. This primary bath is incredibly harmonious. The tile selections play off of our color palette as well. We love a bright and airy space, but the subtle component of darker accents throughout the room was the icing on the cake.

One of our favorite parts about building homes is creating unforgettable exteriors. Adding exterior features and accents are a key part of this process. Pairing an exterior color with the perfect stone can help us achieve that unforgettable look.

We recently finished up a Juniper Floor Plan where the exterior combination was a stunner!

I selected Sherwin Williams Iron Ore for the exterior color due to its bold nature. This was the first time I went with such a bold choice for a spec home, but it certainly won’t be the last. It fit the house so well and brought a sense of confidence with it.

One of the other marquee features on the exterior was the stone. The contrast of the Fond du Lac Niagara ledge and Iron Ore really play well together. This natural stone is sourced entirely from the Fond du Lac Quarry in Wisconsin. It gives off a clean aesthetic that this house demands.

The pairing was a fan favorite at the Spring Parade of Homes, a homebuilder touring event showcasing new homes, and it is easy to see why. The bold color draws attention to itself in a memorable way. It easily captures attention and makes a lasting statement about the home.

Turn an outdoor living space into a stylish getaway which you can escape to in your own backyard. When you are creating an outdoor living space, the first thing you should consider is how you are going to use the space. Do you want to use it for dining? Are you looking for a relaxing spot to lounge? Once that’s decided, here are my 3 important things I consider when creating my outdoor space.

Functionality

I use my space as a lounge where I can unwind and relax. My setup includes comfortable seating and some pillows for additional comfort and style. I also have stylish tables that allow me to place a drink or book. These things make sure the space is both beautiful and functional.

Plants

When it comes to accessorizing your outdoor living space, plants are a must. I absolutely love spring plant shopping. I may tend to go a little crazy in this area. If you don’t have a green thumb, keep it simple with low maintenance plants.

Lighting

If you want to create instant magic for your outdoor living space, lighting is a must! I have layered lighting and love the variety it brings. String lights, candles and a fire pit (or fireplace) add so much to the ambiance!
